Ralph J Venuto MD of California, is a leading specialist in the treatment of disorders of the knee and shoulder, including arthroscopy, ligament reconstruction, and many techniques he personally designed and developed.
He has been recognized as an innovative surgeon who has mastered safe, proven technological breakthroughs. He was the first surgeon in Southern California to perform the effective Carticel Implant Surgery (ACI), where he used a patient’s healthy cells to repair cartilage defects.
Dr. Venuto was one of the first surgeons in the country to perform arthroscopic surgery, in which a straw-like tube with a fiber-optic camera is used to see inside joints and treat specific areas without adding trauma or scarring. As a recognized expert in sports medicine, he has treated many top college and professional athletes, including, among others, NBA superstar Karl Malone. Dr. Venuto was the Chief Medical Officer for the wrestling teams at the 1984 Olympic Games, and has served as a team physician at the high school, college and professional levels.
